Where the sacred and everyday meet

Lent Devotions

Lent: empty to full, prayer

At its simplest, prayer is communicating with God. Prayer is the language of our hopes, dreams, and ambitions. The Bible teaches that we should pray without ceasing, in good times and bad, when we are tempted, and when we are under attack. While God can do whatever He wants without the help of man, in […]

Lent: a season of empty to full, simplicity

“For our boasting is this: the testimony of our conscience that we conducted ourselves in the world in simplicity and godly sincerity, not with fleshly wisdom but by the grace of God, and more abundantly toward you.” 2 Corinthians 1:12 I like simple. Simple pleasures, simple foods, simple days. A flower in an unexpected place.  […]

Lent: empty to full, Ash Wednesday

Lent is a season of opposites. We weep so we may rejoice. We sacrifice so we may receive. We empty so we can be filled. In Hebrew the word for empty transliterates as reyqam, which means in vain, empty, idle, without affect. I must admit I have been reyqam — vainly focused on myself, idly wasting […]

Hello, everyone! Caregiver question:
I have a question for you all today. I am looking to interview 5 to 10 people to gather information for a book I am writing. The book will be for people who are caretakers for their loved ones. I have been through 5 major illnesses in my own family and can speak to processes/needs that will help caretakers, but I would like to talk to more people than just myself!
I am looking to interview people who are or have been caretakers of loved ones due to a chronic illness, ongoing end-of-life situations, or a serious acute situation such as car accidents, injuries, babies born with defects/ chromosome issues, and the like.
If that person is you or you know a caretaker who would consent to be interviewed, can you message me or respond to this post? You don't need to put your contact info in this post, just indicate that you are interested, and I will contact you.
Thank you so much!

Psalm 23 Remix

Psalm 23 Remix

July 9, 2020 By MaryK Leave a Comment

Psalm 23 is one of the the most well-known parts of the Bible. People who do not claim to be religious can quote parts of Psalm 23. Christians have become so familiar with this beloved psalm we almost cease to hear it. What we need is a Psalm 23 remix- a fresh look at an […]

Lent

Today is Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent. As a child, I remember the solemn mass of Ash Wednesday and being anointed with ashes in the sign of the cross on my forehead. As an adult, I attend a Protestant church, but I’ve always loved the traditional church calendar recognized by the Catholic Church. There[Read More…]
