“All this authority, I
will give You, and their glory; for this has been delivered
to me, and I give it to whomever I wish.”
This clearly states the enemy does have the power (and other scripture backs up that presently he has the power here on earth.) otherwise why didn’t Jesus just scoff and laugh it off? Why the stern rebuke? Because if the enemy didn’t have the power to do just as he states, and if it would not be a quick means to an end, as Jesus will reign on the new earth, and if it was not so it would not have been a temptation but a joke. Jesus has come to win His people by God’s plan, absolutely. But we must be careful not to sugar coat the truth. The enemy tempts us by offering us a shorter, easier way sometimes (or at least it seems so at the time) that is the deception. We are creatures of ease and comfort, more so than ever before. That is where the traps lie.
Thank you, Andrea, for your comments. Yes, I agree that the enemy does have some power here on earth, but I also think that based on Job’s story, there are some limits to it. And I do feel that deception is a big weapon of his. If he can get us to believe a lie, then he can trick us into yielding some of our authority to him. Jesus gives us the right model in how He handled the temptation put before Him.
