i hear: green pastures

i hear

Rest and relaxation. Everyone needs it, but nobody has time for it. Our schedules are packed to the max and then some. But Jesus calls us to come and rest …  not in a spa, not in an easy chair, but in a green pasture. There we will find healing for our souls.

i hear: rest

Rushing and stressing are the hashtags that mark our generation. Ask anyone how they’ve been and they will answer, “busy!” While God is about fruitfulness, He is not about busy. God’s plan always includes margin, space and rest. When He sees we have exchanged His pace for the rat race, He calls us to come, rest and take a load off at the foot of the cross. #restinhim.

Please take a moment to rest in His presence and receive a little grace and peace.

i hear: feeling cross

i hear 2

As hard as we may try to control them, emotions can get the better of us sometimes. This was a roller coaster week for me—more down than up! At times I’d have to say I was feeling downright cross.

Easter week is a great time to be feeling cross. In Hebrews 12:2, we read how Jesus redefines feeling cross. Because of Jesus, feeling cross can be can be a great thing.

i hear: forged by fire

i hear

29 “Is not My word like a fire?” says the LORD

“And like a hammer that breaks the rock in pieces?
Jeremiah 23:29
Quick! What do you think of when you hear the words fire and hammer?
Did the Bible come to mind?
God uses both of these words to describe His word. How is the Bible like a hammer? How is it like fire? Better yet, how does God use both of these tools to shape our lives? Sounds like it might be painful.
Ouch!
If you’ve been a Christ follower for more than a few days, you know the refining process can be painful, but there is purpose in the pain!

i hear: he speaks

i hear

“Look at me and listen,” I often tell my class of lively fifth graders, “this is important.” My students are so quick to get caught up in what their friends are saying that they often miss important information they need to be successful with the task at hand.

I wonder how many times God has wanted to say the same thing to me.

“Look at me and listen! You need to learn this truth so you can be successful. Stop listening to the enemy, the world,  yourself and listen to Me!”

God’s word is the only source of truth we can trust. Plus, it is through His word we find healing, salvation and purpose for our lives. When He speaks, we need to listen.

i hear: traveling

i hear

I love to travel.

Loading up the car and heading to all points north is very exciting to me. I even enjoy the packing part … as a matter of fact I get a little carried away with packing. I always start with good intentions. One suitcase.

That’s it. Nothing more. One suitcase.

Well, maybe two suitcases. OK, two suitcases and a traveling bag. I have to take my favorite books, my latest knitting project, and my crossword puzzles for the car ride. And what would a vacation be without my bike? Or one kayak—for each person? Sigh.

My youngest son does not have this problem.

He is a one bag man. Whether he’s going to a wedding for a weekend or a two week jaunt at Isle Royale, he gets by with one bag. It’s not even a suitcase. Just a backpack.

He travels light.
