About Jane
A little about me: I live in Indiana and am married to Mark and mom to Amber and Jesse. This season of life finds me as an empty nester, which I can hardly believe has arrived so soon! I know that some moms out there with young children are thinking they will never have a free moment again, but trust me, it comes much faster than you realize.
My Work: I am a freelance writer and I write for corporate and consumer magazines, internet marketing companies and not-for-profits. I am also a ghost blogger and dabble in greeting card writing and other fun, creative writing projects too. My sister Mary and I speak at women’s retreats and seminars.
My passion: Over the last eight years, I’ve developed a passion for praying and learning more about communicating with God. I’ve learned much of this in the prayer ministry at my church, Grace Community Church in Noblesville, Indiana. Right now I’m reading and studying about contemplative prayer–such an interesting and challenging topic for me. I am all about following the correct steps when I do something, so learning how to be quiet and wait on God really stretches me. I love sharing what I’m learning with others and encouraging others in their prayer lives with God.
Spare time (Who has that?): In my spare time, I enjoy reading, gardening, knitting, walking, biking with my husband (although I can’t keep up) and spending time with my family.
What about you? I would also love to hear about you–what you love to do, what you would like to learn about prayer and what some of your favorite prayer tips are. Leave a comment or send me an e-mail and let me know; after all, we’re all on this journey together.
Thanks for stopping by!

Hi Jane,
My name is Shanika Heyward, I love the LORD, but I feel He’s calling me to something more higher then my little mind can comprehend. However, I have a desire to be used for the glory of God. God been moving upon my heart to start a monthly prayer/ bible study. I have not been obedient because I truly don’t feel like I am qualified. I pray daily, read the bible and repent if I feel I have wrong God or my others.
In May 2010 I graduate from IU, with my MLS Degree in Library and Information Science. I currently work at the Indianapolis Public Library. I’ve been employed here since High School; however, I do not have a librarian position. They always say, “I don’t have enough experience.” However, I know in God’s season I will get the job and be a blessings.
I volunteer for numerous organizations providing resources and philanthropic trainings/workshops. I’m active at my place of worship and I oversee our Grant Ministry, nevertheless, I feel God wants MORE from me. What I’m not really sure.
Thanks for caring and listening,
SisShanika
Shanika,
Thanks for sharing your heart with me. When God puts a call on our hearts, it’s always for a reason. He knows we aren’t perfect–Mary and I were just talking about this the other day. We are speaking to a women’s group in about a month on a topic that God is still dealing with us on! That’s one way He matures us is by making us dig deeper into scripture and learning it ourselves!
If you feel God calling you to start a study, then pray for confirmation and go for it! God will use you in ways you can’t imagine. You’ll learn along with everyone else. And, you’ll grow through this experience. People don’t expect leaders to have all the answers. I think they want to know you care and will walk through life with them and pray for them. If you get stuck on a difficult issue, then by all means seek the counsel of someone wiser than you in ministry, but God can use every willing heart right where they are right now. 2TImothy 3:16,17. Share your heart and what God has done for you.
Let me know what you decide. : )
If you’re on Facebook, friend me, and I’ll send you to our Only By Prayer Facebook friends page. It’s really easy to chat and post prayer requests there.
God bless you!
